Back in May Terra Nova purchased a table at the Alight Care Center Banquet to support our friend Ellen Brignola and her staff, serving people struggling with crisis pregnancies.  Lauren and Erika Groff hosted the table along with 8 others from Terra.  She writes …

“Alight Care Center serves women and men who come to the center with this question, “Should I get an abortion?” At the center, staff and volunteers help them by giving them free pregnancy tests and listening to them, listening to their stories. They provide parenting, childbirth, infant care, and anger management classes (Terra’s own Sarah Eiley Cowherd, doula and young mother of recently dedicated Ruby, eight months, teaches such classes). I bring them used maternity and children’s clothing to give to needy families.  You can too.

This past spring, Terra Nova Church bought a table at the fundraising banquet to benefit Alight Care Center. My husband and I served as hosts, and eight more Terra folks joined us to support Alight and think about how we, individually and communally, can respond to and serve Alight.

ACC’s Director is our friend Ellen Brignola and she shared with us that among many opportunities to support the center, there’s one big area of need, she said: it would be great to see more men stepping forward to volunteer. So men, do you like to listen to people? Care about people? Want to help people? Want to be there to listen, talk through, pray for and support young men who come in for the anger management classes or to get a pregnancy test with their girlfriend? If so, please call the Alight Center at 270-5540 or check it out at alight.org.

There’s another opportunity I can think of, too: women, if you’ve had an abortion and want to receive healing or help another woman who’s facing that decision, perhaps you’d want to volunteer as a counselor at the center.”
