Update from the Corey’s in Africa // August 13, 2007

Many of you have been praying for the Corey’s while they are ministering in Africa. Here are a couple of updates that Tom has sent.

August 5th

“We just want to let you know that we arrived here safely after a long trip, including 9 hours in the Dubai airport! Most of our things arrived too, except for Tom’s suitcase, which came a day late. We’ve met up with the team and are getting to know everyone. Sat. we drove through Nairobi and visited the school in the slum surrounding the city dump. I was overwhelmed again by the extreme poverty and the beauty of the children who welcomed us – I know now why I had to come back. We leave in a few minutes for a day long drive across to Western Kenya where we will be until Friday in a rural village, then back to Nairobi for the second week. Please pray for us as we do for you.”

“Thanks for supporting us in prayer while we are here. Last week was very stressful, but an excellent week in the faith. In four days the clinic served about 1700 patients. I lead a team of four pastors who were preaching periodically to the waiting crowds, and offering brief one on one counsel and prayer to any who stopped by after seeing the MDs, dentists, or physical therapists. Thirty-seven people gave their lives to Christ after I preached on Wed. afternoon. I’ve been meeting with around 25 people each day for counsel and prayer – everything is done through translators as the people speak Kis-swahili, or Kisii dialect of that. That first week was in a rural mountain clinic in Nyamira near the town of Kisii. This coming week we’ll be working out of a Christian school in the Dandora slums of east Nairobi. Really looking forward to getting back to Terra!”

Continue to keep Tom, Anne, and Susannah in prayer. They will be back in about a week.
