I have been “working” here at Terra as an intern now since January and will be here through mid August. After my time here at Terra is over I will be leaving for Dallas Theological Seminary to begin a masters degree in youth ministry. I graduated from UAlbany last may where I studied U.S History and Philosophy and after graduating spent about 7 months in New Orleans doing relief work.
I would define my internship here at Terra as an internship that is geared towards prepping me for seminary and a life of ministry. The elders here mentor me, bring me along to meetings and some of their activities, have me read books that will benefit me and in exchange for them doing that for me I am their slave. I do whatever they need me to do. This so far has ranged from creating and filling spreadsheets for accounting to cleaning up puke from the sidewalk before service on Sunday.
I am very grateful for this opportunity that I have been given and I have learned and grown considerably in the past few months. I consider Terra to be my home church and the people here to be my church family. This internship has taught me allot but interestingly enough I have learned more about what I was designed not to do. Out of that I have learned what I can be truly good at. It has been such a blessing to discover my weaknesses and what I don’t want to do. I’d rather learn that lesson now when it is much easier to adjust the course of my life.
A little bit about my future plans… I hope to one day have a family. I would like to have a wife and some kids, a dog, maybe a white picket fence (I’m a simple guy like that). After graduating from seminary I hope to become a student ministries pastor of a church. My dream is to develop a student ministries program that would include the development of a Sunday education program to youth groups for Jr/Sr high kids and a college ministry. I have a passion for young people and Lord willing I will gladly pour my life into training up the next generation.
