So, the pastors asked me to be a guest blogger in this little world of cyber thoughts to write about an upcoming Christian Music event called Soul Fest.
Soul Fest is kind of like a Christian Woodstock: (minus the drugs) you camp out and dig great music. I’ve had the opportunity to play at two Soul Fests so far and I’ll be going back for my third this August. I know that at Terra Nova we all love music and other forms of the arts; coming from a musician’s stand point, this is a really great event you’re not going to want to miss!
They have acts like the Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Leeland and many more with about 13,000 people in attendance (that was the amount last year). It’s cool because, depending on what they’re doing the next day, artists will just mingle in the crowds, going to the concerts themselves.
Soul Fest is held at a ski mountain called Gunstock in New Hampshire August 1-4 and it is incredibly beautiful there.
Last year I played on the main stage right before the band Super Chic[k] and I managed to get my little sister Hannah in the artist’s lounge with me. They had just put out some food and I was still milling around saying hello to people when I turn around and see my little Hannah, tray in hand, next to Max and Tricia (from Super Chick) on line for some room temperature macaroni and cheese. It was cute.
Anyways, Soul Fest is also a place of community. You’re camping, so you build relationships with your neighbors. My family loves to do a pancake party, we just make as many pancakes as you can even imagine and just start handing them out to whoever walks by. Often, the people on the receiving end of our makeshift plates of steaming goodness sit down on lawn chairs and just get to know us, it’s great. So, if you’re not booked for the summer, please come!
You can always stop by my campsite for breakfast :)
