This Sunday, as a part of our regular worship gathering, Terra Nova will experience its first baptism. Why you ask, has it taken us so long to finally get around to baptizing people? It’s simple—first we procrastinated because we were running around like crazy just trying to get this church off the ground. Then we procrastinated because we were taking our time figuring out how Terra Nova could best do baptisms. The great thing about being a new church is that you get to dream things up again (within reason). So, after many discussions among the elders we came to an understanding of how Terra would do baptisms. It brings together our Christ centered theology, our Christian history of 2000 years and the logistical realties of doing church in a bar. There will be kneeling, there will be the pouring of much water. And there will be immersion—albeit vertical. [By the way, based on my googling research—it would seem that we are first church to use that phrase “Vertical Immersion†to refer to baptism]. We believe that the service will be extremely powerful. And since we will be doing baptisms once a month for several months at least—we hope that this will feel like a very regular part of worship for us. If you are a part of the Terra Nova community, than this is a service you don’t want to miss. See you then!
