The 1984 LINK

so we are the product of many things that make us who are. Like the fact that i refuse to proof blogs. I am gratified that i have friends who have learned to accept this. But i was always attracted to standing against supression and for independance. I loved reading 1984 in high school and was thrilled when one of my children was introduced to the book and loved it. Of course that student caused a small stir in class then they went to a department of defense pep rally that said, in essence, “war is peace.” But that is beside the point.

When it was the year 1984 i remember one sunday that i had anticipated. It was the new mac ad. the hype, at least to my ears, was tremendous. i think my brothers and certainly my dad were more interested in football that sunday, but i was there for a magic moment.

Recently a friend sent me a link to old apple ads. the 1984 ad was not on the list, but it got me searching. and there it was, a host of old memories and contemporary connections to what was presented.

I post it again and wonder….does any else out there “feel” this ad? Are there ads like this today? what spiritual connections to the nature of man (besides attraction to buxom, nordic hammer throwers) are there that stir something deep in us?

I thought it a safer, and probably longer lasting, cultural discussion v. the DaVinci Code (yawn).

i saw the ad and i really do “feel” it ,but if we are looking to a buissness ,no matter how creative, to fill a void of insperation and or rebellion we are obviously misguided. if you honestly think that any ad is meant to do more than make you desire something you don’t need, so that some rich person can make yet more money you’re kidding your self. no disrespect to apple ,but let’s be real. great ad…but i really don’t expect to see more that truly inspire…after all this is America.

um…pastor ed is the guy who has often slammed capitalism and commercials so i don’t think he is saying that you get fulfillment from ads. are you? I think, no disrespect, you must have not read this, not know pastor ed, or just looking for a pot to stir.

so art can not be done for any good reason or glorify God if it’s in an ad? Can music be for any other reason than to make money if it is sold?

and you guys (or ladies) need to stop using my name.

I have never bought an apple product, but I love the commercial. It’s not the buxom blonde, either… Commercials can be great without making you actually want to buy the product, I think. I almost never buy what I see on TV unless it’s a cleaning product. I also think that something can be really f-ing awesome without directly glorifying God. I can just sit here on my Dell watching the ad over and over.

Speaking of creativity, how completely uncreative is the screen name “Anonymous”…..atleast Apple has a creative name…not a name that’s one step from “Dull”.
